The organization Fad Juventud has launched a new campaign entitled ‘Accompanying is everyone’s job’ to promote the safe and healthy use of digital space by minors and young people. The aim is to prevent digital threats such as exposure to inappropriate content or cyberbullying. According to Fad, 66% of young people believe they spend too much time on the Internet. This behavior not only affects their personal well-being, but is also a major source of family conflict.

Fad Youth seeks to highlight the shared responsibility in this situation, with the intention of mobilizing families, educators, digital platforms, political authorities, content creators and young people. The creative concept of the campaign is a visual metaphor showing various technological devices floating in a dark space, to symbolize the omnipresence and continuous demand for attention of technology, especially social networks.

Parents and children are shown trying to control the information emitted by these devices, without much success. This image underscores that merely trying to prohibit access to technology does not work. Instead, the campaign suggests accompanying adolescents in their use of technology and joining efforts with other actors to educate in the safe and responsible use of technology.

Fad Juventud urges families to establish ‘clear rules’ on the use of technology and to maintain a constant dialogue on its risks and benefits. For teachers, it advises them to integrate technology in the classroom and keep up to date on the latest digital trends. For digital platforms, it suggests developing and improving parental control tools, and for content creators, producing and distributing safe and age-appropriate material. With respect to young people, it advocates the importance of self-regulation of online time and the knowledge and exercise of their digital rights.
