In Spain, during the 2022/2023 academic year, a total of 78,063 students with autism were enrolled in educational institutions, which represents an increase of 13.13% compared to the previous school year. This information comes from the Confederación Autismo España and is based on the most recent data provided by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports.

The ministry’s figures indicate that students with autism are the most numerous among students requiring special educational support due to their disability, representing 29.71% of the total.

Of the total number of students with autism spectrum disorder, 82.24% (64,198) are boys and 17.76% (13,865) are girls. Of these, 84.84% are enrolled in regular education (66,226 students) and 15.16% (11,837) are in special education.

These figures reveal that the number of students with autism has been continuously increasing over the last twelve school years. In the 2011-2012 school year, there were 19,023 autistic students. By the 2022/2023 school year, this number has risen to 78,063, representing an increase of 310.36%.
